About the practice

DAC Investigative Reporting is a Melbourne-based practice working on mould and moisture, pests, balconies and wet-area leaks. We investigate the cause and we carry out the remediation, and in practice remediation is the larger half of the business.

Victorian housing stock is unusually mixed: 1880s terraces, interwar brick veneer, volume-built homes barely a decade old, and out in the country, weatherboard homesteads, sheds and rainwater-fed builds a long way from the nearest trade. Each fails in its own way. Cold wet winters, reactive clay soils and hard summers do the rest.

Because we run the remediation as well as the investigation, the work method comes from what was actually found on site: the affected materials, the occupants, the access and the extent of disturbance required. Nothing gets scoped from a template.

We keep the health wording honest. Mould exposure can be associated with congestion, coughing, wheezing and eye or skin irritation, and can worsen asthma or allergic conditions, but a building assessment cannot diagnose a person. Medical concerns belong with a qualified practitioner, and we say so.
